This summer I have begun some powerful work with two impressive schools in Spain: Colegio Ramón y Cajal in Madrid and Colegio C.E.D.E.S. in Albacete. These two schools are on an inquiry journey and with a redesigned competency-focused national curriculum coming their way, we are designing a growth plan that includes some significant implementation steps. We will be having my books translated and available in Spanish as well as spreading this work beyond these two campuses to others interested in inquiry. I couldn’t be more excited!
One integral factor in the success of this work is in designing strategies and frameworks that are easily experienced, implemented, and highly contextual. Put simply: the learning must transcend the language. Throughout our time together teachers were guided through inquiry experiences that helped them explore the benefits curiosity and how to plan for this in our students. They experience questioning strategies and activities to create opportunities to co-design and construct with their learners. We also unpacked assessment and examined (interrogated) how, what, and when we assesses as well as who is doing the assessing.
I am very much looking forward to continuing this work in the coming years. If you were there in attendance - thank you!
